Starts at: 17/07/2024 11:30 am - Duration: 1.5 hour(s)Online via Microsoft Teams
As part of the East Sussex Wellbeing at Work Programme, we offer quarterly Networking Meetings to all wellbeing leads and workplace wellbeing champions trained by the programme. The aim of these meetings is to create a space for you to come together, exchange ideas and best practices, and discuss a hot topic in workplace health.
How to book:
Supporting our ageing population in the workplace.
The main theme of this Champions Network Meeting is about ageism and its intrinsic links to the workplace.
East Sussex County Council Health Improvement Principal, Hayley Martin, will introduce the topic. Our population is ageing, and retirement age is increasing, meaning most people will need to work for more years. Yet evidence suggests ageism is very prevalent and accepted in our society and the most reported form of prejudice experienced in the workplace. This will include information on the Age Friendly Employer Pledge.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to have your voice heard on the topic of ageism in the workplace. Public Health, and the review of Healthy Ageing by the councils People Scrutiny panel of councillors, are considering what more we can do to support people to flourish in the workplace, to support them to age well. East Sussex County Council’s scrutiny committees aim to work as a ‘critical friend’ to help ensure that the Council’s services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Councillors will be joining the meeting and would love to hear your views on this topic, in particular, what benefits there are to having an older workforce, any challenges that may come with this, and what the Council can do to enable you to support older people in the workplace. This session aims to introduce this issue, to explore ways in which we can support more workers to continue to flourish in the workplace.
